Legacy Text form field Tabbing issue

I have several coloumns of text form field. Currently the text form fields are left aligned in each of the coloumns(removed shading). When an user selects a particular coloumn to enter, it tabs to next coloumn. One has cycle tab the entire document to come back to the original/intended field.How do i overcome this issue?. Also how do i ensure the each coloumn width remains the same as the user enters the text.

You can select any field out of order via the mouse.

You control a column's width by unchecking the table's 'automatically resize to fit contents' property and nominating a specific column width for the column concerned.

Hi Paul,

Thanks once again. Is there any other options to bring the cursor back the starting of the text form field without cursor moving to next text form field? Using the Form field shading option makes the user not to know where to place the cursor. Or is there a way to make the form field big enough for easy user input. I understand this is a weird question, but i need to know if there are any solution. Appreciate this help.

You could use an on-exit macro that selects the desired formfield when tabbing out of the current one. See: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/SetTabOrder.htm

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the link. Sorry it's my mistake.The question is not about tabbing but about selecting the right spot of the text form in an table. If user won't use tab ,but just click on some part of the table not the actual text form (which is kind of invisble due the shading option) the cursor moves to the immediate next text form. Hope this is clear. See the attached doc.

If you have forms protection applied, you can't click anywhere but on the formfields. If there's a cell with a formfield, clicking on the left side of the cell will activate the first formfield in that cell. For an additional aid, the users could use Word's 'show bookmarks' option.

Hi Paul,

Yes, once the forms protection is applied, one has to click on formfield only, but for example in the attached doc. if the user wants enter information in 'jan summary2', upon click anywhere in that row (since the formfield is not visible), the cursor moves to 'feb summary1' field. Aplogize if am asking the same question.

If I click anywhere on the Jan report row, the 'summary2' formfield on that row is activated.
