In the Settings user Control Panel on the left margin there is the litany of all possible settings.
If I've helped you, please consider adding to my reputation - just click on the liitle star at the left.

Thank you for responding, but as I said, I must be blind. I have been through the settings and can't find how to add an avatar. Please would you mind just telling me where to find the setting? I'd be very grateful. Sorry for seeing to be stupid.
afaik You must have at least 100 posts to add an avatar.
