How does one find out how many reputation points they (or someone else) has? It's nice to get (and give) them, doesn't help much if you can't tell how many someone has. Thanks.

If you look at the green bars just below the member designation (Forum Contributor etc). the dark green bars equate to 100 points each, the lighter 1's are (I think) are 200 each.
For your own rep points, click "Settings" at the top of the screen, it will tell youi how many you have
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Ok, thanks again.
those values don't seem right.
I have ~3900 reps.
5xDark green
6xLight green
(5*100)+(6*200)= 1700
The FAQ section only describes the functionality.
http://www.excelforum.com/faq.php?fa...vb3_reputation
There are maximum 11 green bars.
So after 1700 points no new green bar added.

Fotis.

Even with a 11 bar limit the maximum assumed value would be 2200.
(0*100)+(11*200)= 2200
Either the values for light/dark are incorrect or there is no accurate deduction to make from the 11 bars.
You first get 5 dark once (5x 100)
Then you get 6 light things (6x 200)
doesn't that mean you get full bars from 1500 onwards?
since you start with 1 dark already

No, but your tooltip can still change until you have a "reputation beyond repute", whatever that means.
Everyone who confuses correlation and causation ends up dead.
There are currently 41 members who have the maximum number of bars - that's 1500 rep points as stated previously. At that point you are deemed to have a "brilliant future" (although I think it probably says more about your past)
At 2000 points your reputation is "beyond repute" as Rory says - that's the top level in terms of visual display - there are currently 27 members at that level
Audere est facere
An interesting discussion. All I can say is, assuming that all those people are providing help for folks on a volunteer basis, and achieving those high levels, then another interpretation might be "I have no life"!
Just kidding! I'm in awe of anyone willing and able to accomplish what you all have done. Thanks, from the community!
Agreed. These people have helped me multiple times now and have been very important for me last couple of months.
Hopefully I can repay this debt by helping others when I can (my skill level is about 0.01% of the real gurus here) in the following years.
The world would be a better place if everyone took the time to help others. I don't think these guys get enough credit for what they do most of the times.
Revisting this I notice this doesn't quite add up - Certainly you get all 11 bars when you hit 1500...but if the first bar is "free" then 4*100 + 6*200 would give you 1600...
I did some more digging and it seems the colour of the bars isn't relevant. You get the first bar immediately (everybody has one, even with no rep) then you get an additional bar for every 100 for the next five bars (the first 4 of those are dark and the next one is light) - you then get an additional (light) bar for every subsequent 200 points
Since I do not know if you need to have 100, or more then 100 points to go to the next level (same doubt with each level).. I'll just write it like this.
[d] = 0 - 100
[d][d] = 100 - 200
[d][d][d] = 200 - 300
[d][d][d][d] = 300 - 400
[d][d][d][d][d] = 400 - 500
[d][d][d][d][d][l] = 500 - 700
[d][d][d][d][d][l][l] = 700 - 900
[d][d][d][d][d][l][l][l] = 900 - 1100
[d][d][d][d][d][l][l][l][l] = 1100 - 1300
[d][d][d][d][d][l][l][l][l][l] = 1300 - 1500
[d][d][d][d][d][l][l][l][l][l][l] = 1500 - ...
