    Update post malware attack

    Hi All,

After resolving the malware attack yet again, the forum is now back up and running, as a few of you would have already noticed.

The forum backend scripts were upgraded to make them more sturdier n attack proof. Fingers crossed this time.

In the course of the upgrade, a couple of new features got included in the forum frontend which were part of the upgrade.

These 2 features are - 1. Like button on posts. 2. Linkback option on threads.

If you feel we do not need these 2 options, they can be disabled.

Also, please bring to our notice any issues you see post this script upgrade. These will be passed on to the tech team for a fix.

    Thanks,
    Admin Team

What browser are you using, Alf? Is it IE? If yes, have you tried the compatibility mode?

I don't know what #2 is for but for #1 is it possible to not have the list of likes at the top of the thread? also, can we search for threads by number of likes? if not, what purpose does it serve?

    Re: Update post malware attack

I don't see what they add to the reputation system.

I assume the 'malware' attack yesterday has been caused by the 'tech' team clumsily trying to implement these unnecessary features.
Wouldn't it be sound first to create a stable & lenient website before introducing gadgets ?

    Re: Update post malware attack

I see no reason for the like system when we have a reputation system in place. I concur that if we keep the LIKE system that they not accumulate at the top of the thread. Perhaps, just the number of likes and not everyone who clicked. Its a real estate issue on the screen.

I don't really see the value of the link back.

    snb,

I would rather say its you who have misunderstood what i typed in the 1st post. The 2 features were part of the upgrade script. They were not introduced by the tech team to cause the attack.

    Hi Arlette

Yes IE 10 64 bit. Setup was in compatibility mode and after switching off "Compatibility mode" for the "Excel Forum" I've got all icons back. Thanks for the help!

Yesterday, I saw the "Like button" but today I don't see it.

    Has it been removed?

Using IE9 in compatibility mode. Doesn't make a difference if I use
    compatibility mode or not.

Yes, the like feature has been removed and the linkbacks will be removed too.

Is your page not loading fully, yet? Have you tried other browsers?

I'm not having any problems with pages not loading.

    Thanks for asking, though.
