Dom
Can you not see the User CP link either?
Dom
@ Domski,
Appreciate you taking interest...!
I can see the USer CP tab and also the Checkboxes for Signature however theres no option to add the signature or the Avatar?

e4excel
Do you not have an 'Edit signature' option there? As it happens, I have no option to use an avatar either. I assume it relates to tenure, or user title or something along those lines.
Good luck.
This is what I can see:

Per the Forum Rules:
Once you have been registered for 60 days and posted 100 posts your user title will change from Registered User to Forum Contributor, you will be able to upload a non-animated avatar. When you get to 120 days registered and 200 posts, your title will change to Valued Forum Contributor and you will be able to upload an animated avatar. When your title reaches Forum Guru you can upload a profile picture, we will leave you to wonder how long you have to be registered and how many posts for that!.
Well, that certainly explains my settings (I should really learn to read one of these days) but not why e4excel still has the title 'Registered user'.
Very true. I'd be tempted to PM RoyUK and see if he can shed any light on the subject.
Dom
Thanks Domski,,
Would be eager to hear from you soon...
I suspect Dom was suggesting that you should PM RoyUK to find out what is happening.
To whom it may concern:
The permissions to add signatures and avatars is closely related to your forum status. The forum rules outline the basics about gaining forum status.
However, these rules can be overridden by the administrator to create individual exceptions, if required. These exceptions are exercised after thorough discussion and a quorum among the moderators.
Members who contribute answers and help other members will soon find themselves progressing through the various status ranks automatically, thus allowing them to add signatures, links in signatures and bigger and/or animated avatars. Members who only post questions, most of which are of a "LMGTFY" or "RTFM" nature, without ever contributing to solving another member's issues will definitely not be promoted to those elevated member ranks.
Please note: You will not -- ever -- get "Valued Contributor" status on Excelforum by posting 10 dumb questions a day. Even if your post count is off the charts. Status on Excelforum and the privileges associated with the status are closely related to the value you add to the forum.
cheers,
[edit]
PS. Using purple bold font and adding polls to questions will get you on the fast track of never gaining status.[/edit]

Perhaps that might be added to the rules to avoid confusion in future?
No.
It's common sense.
If I'm a burden to a system, rather than an asset, I can't expect rewards.
People who need that explained to them in the first place, will not understand (or want to understand) the explanation, anyway.
If anybody thinks they can progress to "Valued Forum Contributor" by posting ten "Need Help -- Urgent!!" questions per day for a few months, they will simply find it does not work that way.

Dear Tevelyn,
Point noted..!!!
Very Humbly, I would like to express that I definitely agree that I have not really been offering solutions in the proportion that I seek help, however, I would definitely improve on that...
But thats not to do with the intention but rather due to inablity most times,...believe me..!
Though I would try to improve on the same...
In the first place I was not expecting to be really gaining status but just wanted to have a default signature so that I avoid typing the same stuff again in each query..
As far as the Poll goes this was my first attempt in understanding about the Poll and regarding the Title colouring just to highlight the Question..
Anyways, I am always indebted to this wonderful forum which has helped me in excel and would definitely return the same back to the forum..
Warm Regards

Simon,
Were you always a "Registered User"? I don't think so.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Simon a guru ,,, erm theres a though!
Must be something in the resetting me thinks
Mayhap it is just I, but if the rules are to be completely ignored at moderators' discretion, I think that should at least be noted somewhere.
@OnErrorGoto0:What rules? Which Moderator(s)? Where would you want this to be noted? And for what purpose?Mayhap it is just I, but if the rules are to be completely ignored at moderators' discretion, I think that should at least be noted somewhere.
The Moderators have to "police" the forum and, to do that, they can and should use their discretion.
Why are you raising this here? It's hardly an issue to do with the forum upgrade.
Why am I raising it here? Because that's where it arose. If there is an arbitrary revocation of the forum rules iro forum titles, why should it not be made public? I'm sure there are good grounds so why should it be secret?
No idea what you are talking about. Perhaps you could clarify? The thread is all over the place, largely because issues are being raised (and discussed) here that are totally irrelevant to the purpose of the thread.
PS if you are going to have, and enforce rigorously, rules then they really ought to apply.
This forum is manned and moderated by volunteers with varying levels of experience, in Excel, VBA and moderating.
My interpretation is that teylyn was simply trying to clarify the situation regarding status progression, and the ability to make certain changes to your profile. This, to a large extent, is to protect the forum from people who would use it to promote themselves,or their web sites, or otherwise abuse the forum.
For those people who contribute regularly and frequently, progression "through the ranks" is a by product of their contribution, not the be all and end all of the process.
Infractions are "awarded" to people who do not follow the forum rules and that is on public display. Other than that, I am not aware of a Hall of Shame where transgressions are disclosed, nor, I think, would we really want one.
I'm not entirely sure why this is such an issue, unless it has hit a particularly sensitive nerve. When I started posting on this forum, I got several warnings and infractions, some of which were justified, some felt less so, and ... believe it or not ... mostly unintentional failures to comply, mostly through a lack of awareness. Now I know about the rules, try to comply with them and, when necessary, police them ... though I suspect that I am more lenient than some (just hate confrontation :-) )
I don't really know where this dialoge is going or what it will achieve. I tend to just go with the flow. There are good days and bad days. I try to go with the flow and spend my time answering questions.

First off, infractions and warnings have nothing to do with this topic.
I am aware that the mods are volunteers. In many ways it makes it more surprising that there is an unofficial scale of user. Regardless, I think it ought to be clear, since it does not follow the rules. Either amend the rules to include the subjective scale, or add a codicil that mods may adjust as they see fit. Either way seems easier than retroactively justifying a user's level.
Right, time to put this particular topic to bed, Moderators cannot adjust a members group or status other than banning them or adding/removing infractions, there is a structured "scale" of user, Registered User, Valued Forum Contributer and Forum Guru (there is another but i can't remember what that is), the progression is taken care of by settings in the system, again mods have no control over that, it's all to do with post count and time of participation in these forums.
Only admin may change a users title or status (other than banning which can be done by all volunteer staff), while i was admin here ALL such adjustments were discussed with forum staff, the whole process was democratic and never taken lightly. The thankless task of policing (and i hate that word!) a forum can at times be annoying and stressful, so hats off to the guys & girls that do it, it's a labour of love performed by people who have nothing but passion for the forum and the interests of the forum users at heart.
We can all feel a little down when we get our wrists slapped but that soon wears off, and for the most part we'll see why it was needed, the ones we don't we'll just have to live with![]()
Hope that helps.

Dear Mods,
I know that I have a long way to go in terms of gaining a stature of an SME, but I would like to just request to atleast get the Signature Option activated if you could in consensus...
I agree that I may not have been of help in terms of offering solutions but maybe the queries which are asked can also be helpful...
If I really would have been so good than why would I ask so many queries, it does take time to make up the queries and also the sample workbooks..
Honestly, I dont have any Programming Background as such but just out of interest i try to work in excel..
Infact whenver possible if I have helped others with some help which i had received from the forum then I make it a point to even make a mention of the same so I am not hankering for any false appreciation..
I just thought of sharing my feelings especially looking at the number of rounds on this topic..
Warm Regards

@e4excel
I wouldn't bother too much about signatures/avatars.
Since the downgrading of this forum and it's slacking down I set my account options to:
![]()
Dear SNB,
The reason of having the signature is to avoid typing the Default Signature .
Warm Regards
e4excel
As this helps in tracking your own threads or answered threads..
Anyways, We are unable to check any of the previous posts before the downgrade..
A signature does nothing to help you in finding your own threads or posts. Signatures do not feature in the forum's internal search, nor do they feature in a Google or Bing search. Not at all. So, trying to use a signature to create many, many links to your website will be in vain.
Re finding your posts: If you have not changed the default settings, then you can easily find all the threads you participated in by clicking Quick Links > Subscribed threads.
That still doesn't help with the posts and threads from before December. I thought I saw somewhere that vai's "techy team" was restoring our old threads? Up until the glorious upgrade, I still referenced my old threads so that I wouldn't repost questions that were already answered.
If you're happy with someone's help, click that little star at the bottom left of their post to give them Reps.
---Keep on Coding in the Free World---
My subscribed threads go back to the day I registered.
Vai's team was restoring posts from before the upgrade to have them show up in search for a user name. I hardly ever use that, so I don't know where it stands. I definitely never searched for all my own posts. The subscribed threads view is much more compact, I find, and it contains everything I need.
Also note that you can create folders for your subscribed threads, which is a nice feature for OCD inclined people.
How do I add an Avatar to my signature? Is there a secret or because I am new to the forum, I'm not permitted?
You can observe a lot by just watching.
Unfortunately you dont have any post count or longevity here, but you'll get there![]()
