Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

    Hi

Watching the forum and seeing different things.. for the first time I wondered, how and by what criteria, formed the rank and comment on green stairs, under any ordinary member or contributor to the forum?
Reading the rules of the forum, there is not something relevant.
    Regards

They reflect the number of rep points that you have received.

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

From monitoring my own progress, you start with one green block. Then, for the dark green blocks, you get an extra block for every 100 rep points. Then the ante seems to go up and you get a light green block for every 200 rep points. Once you have five dark green and six light green it stops. However, the comment changes every so often; again, I think it's with every 200 rep points.

At least, I think that's how it works. Sometimes it seems like a long time between rep points

Based on my experience of vBulletin forums generally
    1. So what? People can give rep or not.
    2. Yes, it's possible but unlikely.
    3. Not sure if that's a question, but that is the basic process, as TMShucks stated.
    Good luck.

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

@TMS, thanks for the reply and your thoughts.. Even you, as a Moderator, you are not sure for this, as i understand..

@OnErrorGoto0: 1. So what? People can give rep or not.

Off course everybody, cans do this. But the point is: We are in PR or give correct answers on the eχcel?
And for me and that's okay. I have no problem. Since these are the terms and if I want to be in the forum, I must obey them.
The question is whether it is correct or not. That is, if I have good PR and you do not, then I must have more stairs? If for you is okay, then it is for me,too.

    2. Yes, it's possible but unlikely.

And for you, is this OK? How it is possible? If i have 90 posts and 2 stairs, how can you explain it?
For eatch thread, is possible to have two posts. Even NO and even if ALL your answers are correct and even if all gives me, a rep*, how can i have two stairs??
90 posts>>2 stairs??>>No possible dude.. Something is wrong..

In any case, my point is to know the rules and these rules, must be the same for all.

    Don't you angree with this??

Reputation doesn't need to come from the question asker, don't forget.

If somebody were to post one single answer.....then it's possible that many people could think that an answer worthy of "rep" and act accordingly. I don't generally ask questions but I give out lots of rep points when I see good answers to the questions of others.....

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

Not really sure what PR has to do with anything?

The amount of rep you receive depends on factors such as the user level and rep of the person who is giving you rep. If, for instance, you get rep from a moderator for something you post, you will typically receive more rep than from an 'ordinary' user. In similar fashion, if you receive rep from a user with a lot of rep, you will get more rep than from a user with little or no rep. (note: I am assuming that this forum works the same as other vB forums)

The rules are the same for everyone. Whether they be fair or no, is oft a matter of some debate. Moreover, the whole matter is moot as I see it - what difference does it make, in the end, how many green blips you have? For me, I will take a simple thank you if I have been of some assistance as ample reward. After all, I have plenty of green dots on the side of my laptop. ;-)

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

I think that OnErrorGoto0 has covered the points well and I'm not sure there's a lot that I can say differently.

People answer questions on the forum because they want to, have the time and, presumably, feel some satisfaction from what they do. They might be rewarded by rep, by a simple thank you, or both. Sometimes a PM. Sometimes, nothing ... which can be disappointing if you've put a lot of effort in, but tough. It happens. I answer questions because I can, or because I want to try, or because I want to learn. Sometimes they are easy (for me), sometimes they're not ... and I learn from trying or from the solutions that others provide.

With regard to "can you have more rep points than posts" ... maybe, I suspect that it is possible, if unusual. I certainly don't get rep points from every question I answer. There are times when I can answer dozens of questions and not get any rep points. And it can be days, maybe weeks, before I get any. As it stands, it looks as though I've got all the green blocks I can get and it's just my "status" that will change.

I'm relatively new as a moderator and I don't know much about the underlying mechanisms of the Excel Forum or VB sites in general. I know what I've seen so far so I've worked out what I think is going on and I have shared that with you. Some people give me rep and I get one point, for others it can be six or seven ... I never know quite how that works. Mods and Gurus have given me rep and that can be a huge boost ... but, to be honest, I don't know what *you* get if/when *I* give rep points.

I hope this has covered it off. There's not much point getting emotional about it. It is like it is, like it or not.

    Regards, TMS

    guys..

1)I mean PR is Public Relations. not personal messages.

the rules are the same for everyone
This is the point ! IS it(the rules are the same for everyone).?

Whether they be fair or no, is oft a matter of some debate
    That was my point!

Moreover, the whole matter is moot as I see it - what difference does it make, in the end, how many green blips you have? For me, I will take a simple thank you if I have been of some assistance as ample reward. After all, I have plenty of green dots on the side of my laptop. ;-)
τhe same for me friend .. But to tell the truth, it bothers me a bit to offer time and thought and my reward is zero!

It bothers me, but what, none of you did not answer.

    A

90 posts>>2 stairs??>>No possible dude.. Something is wrong..
Although I feel how my attack, feeling that interested in my personal highlight, to declare with absolute faith that this is not my goal and my contribution to the forum itself, is selfless (not expecting anything like reciprocation, except one simple thank you)

Who has 90 posts and two bars anyway?
As I said, if you get your rep from someone with a lot of rep power, you could probably get a bar in three or four posts.

The way you answer, makes me feel that I accept an attack and I do not like it, at all.

I made a question, which I think are interested and several other new members, like me, trying to learn some things about the rules of forum to participate.

In any case, thanks for the answers.

    Fotis,
I am in no way trying to attack you and I apologise profusely if I have given that impression.

I am merely trying to understand what it is that you are after in terms of an explanation, since I thought this had been covered quite thoroughly. Since you mentioned 90 posts and two bars I thought perhaps a concrete example would assist but I cannot see to whom you are referring.

Again, I apologise for any offense - it was not my intention.

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

    Fotis,

If you look in the members list and sort it (descending) on reputation your position is 98 of a total of 241835.
    Not too bad I'd say.
To add to this consolation: Richard Schollar, who has the title 'Forum Guru' (for what it's worth) and a total of 1264 post is in position 110 from the top.
So there's very little to complain about in your case I'd say.

This forum is - my opinion - not about giving 'right' or 'correct' answers but about inspiring each other on what you can do with certain software and it's programming language. More often than not there are many ways to accomplish the same goal.
You may also have noticed that the amount of members that is visiting a forum is a tiny fraction of the total number of visitors. Non members can read and marvel your stunning suggestions and even use them without being able to 'rep' you. So your reputation reaches far beyond the limited scope of the members of this forum, let alone the tiny few that are so overly polite to grant you some 'rep' points, based on their own reputation.
If you are longing for eternal reputation you should continue to post your valuable suggestions in this forum without bothering too much about reputation points received. You could consider those as pleasant 'side catch' (fishing expression) or 'collateral profit'.

Re: Does any one knows, about the ..green stair??

@Fotis: I don't think anyone intends to "attack" you and, if that's the way it has come across, I am sorry. I think it's just one of the problems of trying to have a dialogue on a forum like this. There are similar problems with email. This is, perhaps, coupled with slight language/translation issues.

Looking at the membership list, sorted by reputation, you can see a couple of things. One, you only have to go to page 5 before you start seeing members with "only" one bar. This may be because they don't answer many questions, their answers were not considered helpful, or they were just unlucky ... who knows?

But, to pick up your point, there are a few members with less than a 100 posts who have two bars. I can only guess that they've answered questions from some top hitters. It's also fair to say that the number of posts doesn't differentiate between questions asked and questions answered ... or posts that simply say "thank you".

I generally say "you're welcome" if someone thanks me and/or I will thank them if they have (positive) repped me so that will have "inflated" my post count but I consider it good manners to close down a thread politely.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards, TMS
