Status Update on All Upgrade Issues

Hey guys,

Given below is a detailed status update on each issue that was brought up to us through the several threads. All resolved issues marked in green -

1. Link to Forum Rules missing at the top of the page- Solved

2. Icon to issue infraction was missing - Solved

3. WWW and non www issue - Once the WWW issue was resolved, the BLOGS got included. These have been deactivated to avoid further issues. - Solved

4. New Forum Theme - Work in Progress - Technical Team is working on it.

5. One person said - I don't like the number of Views and the number of replies to a thread being placed under each other. I personally will look more at posts with few replies than the others and it's kind of confusing the way it is presented now. - This will be worked upon once the high priority bugs have been fixed.

6. The + Reply to Thread button just above the quick reply doesn't appear to be working - Solved

7. Excel version no longer showing in user info on top right of post - Solved

8. Search - only finds posts since upgrade - Technical Team working on it.

9. When viewing a thread the forum rules link has moved to the quick navigation drop down. Not an issue as such, more an observation. - Solved

10. "Quick Links" - should always be available - If you use "New posts" it isn't there..- Solved

11. When trying excel programming threads this page is displayed Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator. - Solved

12. The icon for Excel attachments is broken. The linked image http://www.excelforum.com/images/attach/xls.gif does not seem to exist. This happened before the upgrade, too, at least in the "child of ..." skin. - Solved

13. Same icons for WATER COOLER and other posts? - Please elaborate. Was it different in the previous version?

14. Used IE7 sometimes receive error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function prepare_blog_category_permissions() in /home/eforum/public_html/includes/blog_init.php on line 32 - Solved

15. I am having a hard time posting in Excel Programming and regularly get prompted to leave the page or stay but the post would not post (see picture). This has happened in more than one thread in programming. As it turns out, my posts were posted multiple times after I made the above post. Kind of weird. - Solved

16. There does not seem to be a method of attaching a file to the posts. Fortunately, I have an account with MediaFire from which users can download files from. Hopefully, this will not be a permanent feature of the new design. How does this impact the older files that were part of the database? - Attaching of new files works - Solved

17. A while ago I posted a thread requesting help with activeX combo boxes and named lists....Although I've been gone on work with no Internet access, I've come back to search for the answer, and cannot find in the search utility, as well as navigating 45 pages of the forum. Can a moderator please help? REPLY FROM ABOUSETTA - The Excel Forum website was just upgraded over the weekend and the web developers are still working out the 'bugs'. - The user has been intimated to post again and intimate us of any further issues.

18. Canned replies for moderators - Solved.

19. Still getting the Database Error when trying to connect... And also really need access to the old posts and started threads. It would be a big blow to the site if these were lost. - Solved (Techical team working on restoring old posts).

20. Experimented by adding a video - Do we need videos here? - This functionality has been provided by default.

21. I recieved an infraction in this thread ,I was told I ignored a moderators request. Well, I posted my reply about 5mins after the OP replied and keep getting "Database error" and "please wait while you are being connected", so I left it at that went back to work and what do you know I finally able to get back online I have an infraction. I am trying to give back to this forum after all the help I received here and I get this, am I too penalized b/c of this site database failure? - Will work with the Mods to get the infraction reversed.

22.Please add to the list the details from the users settings.I can see that location is there but not the useful information like the version of Excel that the may have - Solved

25. Things we need:1. A test environment that isn't the live one. - As explained earlier, we couldn't use the same license twice - 1 for testing and the other for production. - Solved

26. I always just used the "Go Advanced" version of the reply, which I could get to by clicking "Post Reply" at the bottom of a thread. Now that button just goes to the Quick Reply box, and I need to click the "Go Advanced" down there. Not really an issue, it just confused me for a bit. As a side note, I had to turn off the new way to do attachments. I can understand the idea behind it, but its not something I would use. - Just a workaround - Solved

27. I haven't been on here all weekend and don't remember seeing any warnings or notices of this event happening. I was very surprised to see this new forum. I, like Andy, am not too impressed with the onslaught of issues going on already. I can't even get to the Index right now, and am having troubles just navigating. I don't know how any new members will know what to do! - A notice was put up on Saturday on the forum. We should be up and running without any bugs very shortly. By then it will be user-friendly for the new guys too. - Solved

28. Not able to open old posts. I received an email from the forum but am not able to open the post using the link in the email. - Solved

30. Any chance of incorporating a visual icon (example) to indicate solved threads instead of the old [SOLVED] text? Perhaps a checkmark in a position similar to the padlock icon used for locked threads. - This will be worked upon once the high priority bugs have been fixed.

31. Forums Consolidation - Next action item once upgrade issues are resolved.

32. I have found that while we can now attach files, they can not be downloaded. - Technical Team working on it.

33. The horizontal scroll bar does not work on the Code Tags. I have removed Code Tags on a few posts to make them readable. - Solved

34. Clicking on the default Quick Navigation selection does not return you to that forum. - Solved

35. What's this auto-save that keeps flashing? - Auto Save disabled - Solved

36. Add the code tags icon to the quick reply edit box and to the re-edit box ? - This will be worked upon once the high priority bugs have been fixed.

37. I have noticed that a lot of the regular posters are no longer posting... This message is directed to the owner/admin of the site. Danger!!! Danger!!! Warning!!! Warning!!! We need a working site... the bells and whistles don't do much if we can't even navigate the site correctly. Many of the links are not working, old posts are not available, etc. etc. etc. - We will have a fully functional site very soon.

38. Canned replies don't seem to be working when giving an infraction - Technical team working on it.

39. I don't see any notification of percentage of Inbox taken. I was told in another forum that my inbox was full, otherwise I wouldn't know unless I checked my email.. which I shouldn't have to, I don't think. - Available under Notifications -> Inbox - Solved.

40. I don't know if it's already been mentioned but the currently active user list (at the bottom of the forum's index page) does not wrap when the window is narrowed. In IE8, at least. - Solved

48. When I navigate to the main forum page (URL is http://www.excelforum.com/), the tab name in Internet Explorer becomes just "E". Presumably it should be "Excel Help Forum" or similar. - Solved

49. When I am logged in, I can still see a link to register in the top right-hand corner of the page next to the "log out" link. This option should be removed to help declutter the page. - Solved

50. DB Error when trying to edit post (e.g. http://www.excelforum.com/editpost.p...49&do=editpost). - Solved

51.Now difficult/impossible to connect to any thread that isn't in "Todays Posts" before the break for "... Threads not updated since .. " (11:05 GMT 07/12/2011) - Solved.

52. The Blog is confusing new users. They are posting their Excel questions there... and I (or maybe we) are not going to answer/moderate them! - Blog deactivated - Solved

53. Edit button (pencil) not available for signature on User Control page. - Solved

54. Color for logo on Print preview are not blending with the background (white). It looks like... can't describe but you will see what I mean when you click on the button. - Solved

55. Been unable to get on for 20 mins due to a network error screen - Solved

56. There is no quick navigation to another forum from the "What's New" page. - Solved

57. The menu bar is a bit of a mess - there are 3 main menu items - Forum, Blogs, What's New? Each main item has its own sub menu. However, while using the Forum sub-menu, "New Posts" and "Quick Links > Today's Posts" both take you to the Whats New page. Once there, you have lost the Forum sub menu and are now stuck with the whats new sub menu. This is annoying. Since there isnt much worth using in the Whats new sub menu, i recommend deleting the whats new main menu entirely. - Blogs deactivated. The rest is working as per the in-built functionality. - Solved

58. Inline attach tags produce invalid URLs. - Technical Team working on it.

59. I can no longer TAB out of the quick reply box to "Post Quick Reply" button via keyboard. As a non-mouse person, this makes posting messages significantly more cumbersome. Please add TAB functionality back in. - Solved

60. A lot of the attachments from the last few days have disappeared. I know because I uploaded a couple of these attachments or have downloaded attachments that OPs have uploaded. - Technical Team working on it.

61. This is taking quite some to get used to. Little things that I find annoying are the bold that is used on threads that have had responses. They are barely darker shades of blue compared to what's there in regular font. I find myself doing a lot of staring and squinting at my screen because a lot of the colours sort of just blend together. I haven't read all of the posts in this thread so I'm not sure how much the colour schema has been brought up but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. - This will be worked upon once the high priority bugs have been fixed.

62. No attachment visible in this thread http://www.excelforum.com/excel-work...r-per-day.html ( already saw the same thing on another one but thought it was an error - seems to be a recurring item - Technical Team working on it.

63. If you click on New Posts, it directs to Whats New, so whats the use of New Posts? - Part of in-built functionality - Solved.

Given below are the Skylight related issues - The technical team has deactivated it for now as they are working on this new theme and will have it fully functional in 2 days.

1. I'd like to see the old "Child of....." Skin available.

2. Cant manage with the new skin. it's easier to have an icon/button "old version" and "new version" as yahoo mail has! well, it's really difficult to navigate through.

3. Problem with skylight skin - Not able to pick and open any thread.

4. What's with the enboldening of thread entries, it's not pretty. I get different appearences of the threads if I go to a sub forum apposed to the New Post list.

5. Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but I can't see any of the Quick Reply buttons (such as Link, Email, Italic, etc.) when using Skylight skin.

6. Quick reply button images are all missing in Chrome using Skylight, including in advanced window.

7. The skylight view feels very cluttered. Before the content of the post was only being shown hovering over the link, but now it's 1 mess of indiscriminately cluttered text. Readability is functionality. Besides, most of the screen is now being occupied by useless information. REPLY BY ARTHURBR Post contents hovers satisfactorily on FF8.

8.The hovering functionality works fine, what I (and I believe snb) find useless is all the info highlighted in the attachment below - it contains the same info you can get with a hover, but it shouldn't be shown on the page with the list of all threads. Not only that, but why is it bolded? The text of the thread is bolded but the titles are not?

9. In the skylight no reputation visible.

11. The skylight skin is absolutely unusable in Chrome. Vai, ever heard of cross browser testing?

12. The useless welcome message has punctuation errors and missing words, but we really, really need the ad for "Amazing vBulletin skins!"

13. A third of the screen is taken up by useless gunk and advertising for skins, messages that point to links that don't exist.

14. A forum view renders half the post in preview, everything is bold

15. THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN A POST FROM A FORUM VIEW BECAUSE THE POSTS DON'T HAVE LINKS AND THE BUTTONS DON'T WORK.

16. Just tried the skylight skin in Firefox. As in Chrome, in a forum view there are no links to open a post. The only way I can open a thread is via the "What's new" view. what about the "ARG: Undefined" thing?

17. Skylight skin does not show any icons in the quick reply box or the Advanced reply box. There are icon areas, but they are all blank. If the mouse is hovered over the icon area text will pop up. This is the same in IE8, Chrome and Firefox. Vai, do you honestly expect us to do your beta-testing on a live site? Ah, but all the wonderful new features. Did anyone ask for a blog?

18. I was instructed to switch back from Skyline, but I do not see the way to do that after searching the bottom of many screens/profile pages/setting pages....

I will provide more updates on the new theme once these have been resolved....

Here is an update on all the remaining issues that were pending - Fresh updates in Blue

1. New Forum Theme - Fully functional, please feel free to bring up any issues that you face and the team will work towards resolving it.

2. Number of views and number of replies are placed one above the other which makes it confusing to read -Fixed in Skylight skin, will be functional in the default skin shortly.

3. Search - only finds posts since upgrade - Technical team working on it. The VBulletin software indexes the threads and posts as they enter the system. When the upgrade happened, the indexes to the pre-upgrade threads and posts were lost. Hence, these need to be re-indexed. This task will be completed on Saturday evening since the load on the server will be less at that time.

4. I have found that while we can now attach files, they can not be downloaded. - Solved

5.The horizontal scroll bar does not work on the Code Tags. I have removed Code Tags on a few posts to make them readable. - Solved, the user has been asked to provide a sample thread to narrow down on root cause of issue.

Hope you all had a good and festive holiday season.

Here is a status update on the issues faced lately -

1. Number of views and number of replies are placed one above the other which makes it confusing to read - Views & Replies have been placed in separate columns in the skylight view - forum views as well as Whats New?. Will be replicated in the default view once the majority of users approve the same.

2. Search - only finds posts since upgrade - All attachments from the prior posts have been recovered. Considering the huge volume of attachments, this task took several days. By today, the team will complete the indexing of the old posts which will enable all users to complete their searches properly.

3. Avatar does not show in member list, although there is a column for it. [Edit:] Paul's and OldChippy's avatars show. Is there any method to this? - Work in progress.

4. On the main Forum page, under What's going on, the current user list is not wrapped and is crossing the grid. - Solved

5. Bookmarks sub window not collapsible - This functionality is not present in the core software - VBulletin. Hence, we cannot change it any further.

6. Thread information not collapsible - see attachment the missing collapsing icons in a thread in the water cooler. - This functionality is not present in the core software - VBulletin. Hence, we cannot change it any further.

7. Tags for this thread: unnecessary & uncollapsible - This functionality is not present in the core software - VBulletin. Hence, we cannot change it any further.

8. System doesn't store the collapsing so every time it pops up again - This functionality is not present in the core software - VBulletin. Hence, we cannot change it any further.

9. Too much redundant information: tabs members list; calendar - This functionality is not present in the core software - VBulletin. Hence, we cannot change it any further.

10. Dates not in ISO format - Dates have been changed to reflect the mm-dd-yyyy format.

11. Can't TAB out of the REPLY box to the Submit buttons, very "mouse-centric" - Solved.

12. There is no menu-bar link to http://www.excelforum.com/usercp.php which is the best "landing" point for the forum as it is the only spot that shows you your current active threads with responses waiting to be read. This should be a prominant/dominant "default" link on the menu bar. - Currently this path shows up the Settings page which contains all the information that the user needs with regard to their Control Panel.

13. Version numbers are missing from posts, so no reference to work from regarding OPs (I can see MY version in the upper right corner of my posts) - Solved.

14. No indicator of 'fullness' of PM box - Available in skylight theme on top of Inbox. If this is approved by all, we will implement in default theme.

15. Redundant icons/buttons/hyperlinks. To go 'to the top' are 4 different icons/buttons/hyperlinks; please reduce to 1 - Suggestion - Deferred for later.

16. The code window still has a non functioning horizontal scroll bar. The text will wrap in the window when the length exceeds the window width but it make long lines of code hard to read. - Solved

17. The Quick Navigation button is anything but. I really don't like having to either scroll the menu or go to the "Top" of page to get back to the forum I am in. WTF is the logic behind that change or is there any? - Yes there is a logic behind that so that one can know the category to which the post belongs plus its useful for search Engines.

18. The file upload manager - This has got to be the worst designed interface I have ever had the displeasure of using. Was this a standard interface that came with the upgrade? If so, please let me know who to write at vBSEO so I can petition the government for a grant to send the under educated "programmer" who wrote this POS back to school! Note from Teylyn (Maybe we can make it default for all) - Step by step (using the Skylight skin)- Click "Settings" in the upper right top nav. This will get you to what you may remember as your User Control Panel (User CP)- In the right hand panels, track down "My Settings > My Account > General Settings" and click "General Settings" - Scroll all the way down - in the section for "Enhanced Attachment Uploading" select "Enhanced Attachment Uploading off" - click "Save Changes" - From then on, the "manage attachments" dialog will look like it used to before the upgrade. - This can be done by the user itself.

19. Attachments are not linking to the attachment uploaded. In other words I click on an attachment I uploaded and it links to somebody elses. - Solved

21. The thread/envelope icons are still backwards in both skins. The icon for open envelope should be for opened threads, while the unopened envelope should be for unopened threads. But it is vice-versa. REPLY FROM PAUL - Are the thread icons really "backwards"? I guess it depends on how you think about them. If you think of them as "Opened" and "Unopened" envelopes, then I can see where you get that impression. To me, I see it as "there are new/unread posts in this thread" (envelope with documents showing) vs. "no new/unread posts in the thread" (closed envelope). - Solved

22. Can we get the View/Posts columns to the left of the Last Post by column instead? - As per the default vb structure, the Views and Posts are in the same columns as the previous version. This cannot be changed.

23. In forum views, the "created by" line below the thread title is always bold. Can this be un-bolded, just as it is in the "What's new" view, please. - Solved

24. Not sure if everyone agrees with this one.. but can the "Post Icons" be turned off so users cannot add an emoticon which appears to the left of their thread title in every list? They're useless, and only add to the clutter of icons. If you're not sure what they are, in the Go Advanced screen (new/edit post), below the text area to write your post there are radio buttons to choose a Post Icon. They're dumb.According to this site: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...ble-post-icons. In the 'forum manager', there's a yes/no option against 'allow post icons' - default is yes from a standard install. It says you must do that for each forum/sub-forum, but that was back in 2004. Not sure if there's a global option now. - Suggestion, will be considered once all major bugs are sorted out.

25. Some items in the "What's New" view have several replies, but 0 Views. - The views counter will get corrected on the next refresh to the what's new Query.

26. I can't get the "Report Post" button/icon to work. (IE9 and vB4 Default Style) - Solved

27. The current infractions are not showing for any poster in any thread. It's a bit grim being reminded of ones' own when viewing "Settings", especially considering they can be years old! - Work in Progress

28. On the "Who's Online" page, when a member is viewing an attachment, the relevant thread is missing. (IE9 and vb4 default style) - Work in Progress

29. Login dialog - User Name text box issue. In the User Name text box there is some default faded text "User Name" that disappears when a user clicks in the text box. Recently however, the default text has not been disappearing. The result looks like:User Naconnexionlostme. it inhibits login. - Solved

30. Editing a post triggers a copy of the post instead of publishing the edits in the original post - Solved

31. Why can't JPEG/GIF be displayed as images on the web page instead of links. Closing them closes the entire tab and it is quite annoying. - Work in Progress

32. The reply button should open the advanced reply box but is not. -Work in Progress

33. All signature text is bold. No means of getting normal font in signature. - Work in Progress
