Let's put a time limit on that coding tonight... Say sometime before 4AM, OK?

Trying to complete my deadline and after a bit more pondering, my response to my good hearted wife last night after 1AM was:

Ya know Sweetie... have you ever noticed that over there on the couch is our female cat all curled up, catching her ZZZZZ's and counting mice. And that male cat of ours that we usually keep in the back bedroom all by himself, tonight as usual is climbing the shelving again. So it must be some sort of a gender thing...

This statement of discovery did not really convince my wife of anything.

Does this happen to anyone else?????

Anyway... it is past 1AM again tonight. Goodnight. I think?

Think I'll check on the cat first, and then turn off the computer...

You know how people say they were born in the wrong age - I think I am a few millenia early, when the earth's rotation slows down a bit such that days are about 25-26 hours long I'll be in my element.

A couple of hours extra sleep a night wouldn't go amiss I'll agree, not that it's got anything to do with how much work I do in the slightest.

After midnight is the perfect time, wives and kids in bed, I've done some of my best work then! Still I do remember in my first job, one of our programmers worked 3 days straight to hit his deadline and bonus, the morning of the 3rd day he had just fallen asleep and slipped quietly off his chair and under the desk!

Still earlier this year I solved a programming (math) problem I had worked on 25 years ago and never solved, I woke up one morning at 2am with a flash of inspiration (25 years later!) and wrote the code, unfortunately I will never use the code, but it put my mind at rest.

Yep, I too do my best work at night. I am new to coding again (just 6 months), I used to code 15 years ago in 'C'. Back then I would work non-stop sometimes to finish a project. Then I would look at the clock that said 8:00 and say to myself "..is that AM or PM..?" But I am married now so we don't go overboard that much any more. There is just something nice about codeing when all is quiet.

I keep a note pad on my nightstand because me too, when I can not figure out a way to go about solving a coding problem, thoughts/answers happen right as I am going to sleep, or in the morning. Amazing how the mind keeps working on things even while we are sleeping.

Thomas Edison used to work on his experiments night and day until he would almost pass out. He would then go to sleep in a small room hidden under the staircase where no one could find him. Some people might think that is kind of strange, but some of us programmers can relate to it.

On the rare occasion I work after 5:00pm it's almost always because I didn't get to work until after 10:00am. I have a very trying job

Lol, Coding is for fun, work is different! I try not to get a job with pure coding, it takes the fun out of my hobby!

I'll be lucky to have a job myself in a few months with Mr Osborne and his plans!!!

Anyway, people here think I'm pretty good at what I do (playing with Excel mostly) and I wouldn't want the likes of you coming along and showing me up

In the brave new (Tory) world there will only be room for one of you to be employed to "play with excel" - Dom and Rory - heads or tails??

Most Americans would feel better if they were lied to in a British accent, so why not.
