    Who is this Marco?

As you guys see, I'm from Belgium (tiny speck on the map, lots of trouble), therefore my English isn't as adequate as it should be.
So, to all you Shakespearean connoisseurs out there, I would like yo ask : Who is this Marco guy I read about all over the forum?
"I want to make a Marco" ( Dr Frankenstein as OP I suppose, or eventually a lady),"Help me with this Marco" (the gardener ?), " How do I adapt my Marco" (we'll need a shrink sooner or later), "Marco doesn't work" ( his boss will be mad), etc....

    Anybody care to enlighten me?

    Yours sincerely

    Re: Who is this Marco?

Maybe we do. Thing is, if you learn a language as a second (or third or more), you tend to follow the rules, so, as an outsider, you have at least a chance to get a grip.

A lot of native English speakers will not find any fault with this, whereas people like Arthurbr, as well as me and many other non-native speakers of English, will do a double take, and need a few minutes to sort out what the subject, verb, and object of the sentence are (or are supposed to be). How else do we have a chance at deciphering the message? My husband glared at it for a full five minutes, failing (rightly) to understand the sentence, and I had to actually tell him what the common NZ'er thinks this means.

For us Germans, you simply can't smile your money. Smile does not have an object.

I've run the test in my office, showing them the image in the link above. Half the people are NZ natives, the other half from all over the globe. A quarter of the people winced when they saw the image. Of those, the majority were not brought up in NZ.

So, I guess, grammar and spelling standards pretty much depend on how high these are rated in your country and how prominently they are reflected in the educational program of your country's curriculum.

    rant over.

    cheers

My local petrol station used to have a sign on the pumps reading, "Smile, your on camera!". It made every fill-up a painful experience.

No less disturbing was the Health & Safety notice pinned up in one of my old offices, which informed me that "80% of workplace injuries result in cuts or sprains".

Maybe "Who is this Marco?", should be "Who is this Macro? "

    It might be me.....

Many a time I get - "Thanks for your help Marco."

    Re: Who is this Marco?

then again, I often wonder how OPs expect to have a snowflake's chance in a hot place to get a forumla (or a marco) right when they cnat evne mnagae to spell thier quetsion wihtout a tpyo.

Compared to the general public, Excel and VBA are relentless. You spell it wrong, you won't get the result you expect. Excel won't correct it for you. The best you can hope for is Intellisense, but if you manage to ignore even that, then your result will most likely be an error message.

Ah, then onto Excelforum. "Help! Urgent!! My formula does not work." - "Please take a moment to read the forum rules and then amend your thread title accordingly."

    Full circle. Kind of ....

I'm scared to contribute to this thread as I'm bound to make a grammatical error somewhere.

A grammer mistake that drives me absolutely nuts (and I see it fairly often is when people don't close their freakin parentheses!

Is your code running too slowly?
Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?
