    Standard Examples

    Hi all,

I've mentioned a few times that I think a standard examples area is a good idea, I think some agree. In order to kick this off I've tried to create an example of a good example. I haven't spent long on it as my intent is to make this as collaborative as possible (i.e. please do rehash/totally replace if you have something to add). This first example is a bit self-referential, I would expect the rest to be around 'how to use formula xyz' - but it did seem to be an obvious start.

I have included a very arbitrarily thrown together set of guidelines:

Golden rules of a good example:
    1. Show clearly what you have to start with
    2. Show clearly what you want the end result to look like
    3. Include the logic of any calculations

    Other things worth noting:
    4. Be as concise as possible whilst including all the relevant information
    5. Remove as much 'peripheral' content and formatting as possible
    6. If it will still make sense, extract the sheet you need help with and make it a single-sheet workbook (right-click sheet tab -> move or copy -> copy (New book)
    7. Remove any VBA unless it's a coding question

Your thoughts, reworkings, and more to the point, contributions, are very welcome.

If you feel really indebted please consider a donation to charity. My preferred charity is ActionAid but there are plenty of worthy alternatives.
