Anyone fancy having a look at this … manage filter cell from another sheet
I thought a sample file might clarify the requirement but, for me, it didn't.
It's been up over a week with lots of views and now the OP is getting himself in trouble by PMing people asking them to look at the thread.
Thanks … and Happy New Year to everyone if it's not too late to say that.

Can someone please help to look at this thread: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...ml#post5781784.
Thank you.
Anyone care to take a look at this. The OP wants what it says on the tin, to combine 3 VBA functions.
Combining 3 VBA functions into a single VBA sub
I don't have time to unravel it and wondered if anyone else was up to the challenge.
Thanks.
I feel like Power Query would be the easiest choice for extracting the data from the two tables and combining into one for the stacked bar chart the OP is requesting here: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...ml#post5790746 I don't know PQ, so cannot help. As near as I can tell, the goal is to put together a table where we have start time and and end time/durations for select "line names" so that we can then build the stacked bar/Gantt chart that visualizes the operation.

The OP is getting a daily text file (with data every half hour of the day). I have recommended the possibility of using these text files to build a solid database that they could then use to perform all kinds of daily, weekly, monthly analyses. Can any of you database + Power Query experts step in and help with the things the OP can/should do to build a good database from these daily text files and later add new days to the database?

How can I convert this google sheet formula to excel?
The OP is using a FILTER function in Google Sheets but wants to convert to Excel 2016. I have seen clever stuff done with FILTERXML but it is not a strong point for me.
Thoughts and ideas would be appreciated from anyone/everyone.
I see no solution here outside of VBA. I guess the OP is wanting all the hundreds of charts because of some type of report.

MATCH() should work, but it doesnt. Read my comments in post #4 there
I went through something similar a couple weeks ago. In my case, I found that if I navigated to any thread as a result of a search using the site's search engine (other than the "what's new" search), the thread content was blank. If I navigated through the "what's new" search or by manually finding the thread in the forum lists, then the thread content was visible.
I went through the same thing @ 2 weeks ago. I hit F5 and it cleared up, but I had to do it with each thread. It eventually cleared up (after I posted about it).![]()

The OP would like to format data points in a pivot chart based on value i.e., <3% green and >=3% red. My feeling is that it might be possible if a regular chart is produced from the pivot table, however I am ignorant of how that works.

Adding Non-breaking space to both ends of a text selection
This looks like it will become a database design project. https://www.excelforum.com/excel-gen...c-diagram.html I'm not skilled at database design, but I figure there are several of you who know how to put together databases in Excel that could help with moving data from an input tab into a database and then build some simple count/summary data off of that database.
The OP here wants a spill formula to populate dates in a column, but I just don't get what the formula he currently has is supposed to be doing. Anyone fancy taking a look?

VBA date copy/paste problem
CS post says that when he runs the VBA code, it copies dates from one place to another incorrectly. On examination of his sample file, some dates are pasted as date values and some are pasted as text. The ones pasted as text are correct but the ones pasted as values reverse the day and month.
I used his file and ran his code and it worked perfectly.
I suspect the issue is somehow related to the regional settings. If someone uses European date formats and would like to try this the thread is worth 20 points and is not locked.

It appears that the source data is in text format. Moreover, the source data is in US format, and trying to copy it is done on a computer with UK settings (or vice versa).
Excel is a very greedy tool when it comes to date conversions. It "likes" to convert to date anything that resembles it. I suspect that after copying, the "dates" in text format are the ones that Excel did not convert because the number of days (in US format in the second place) is greater than 12. For example, the "date" in US 07/15/2022 was not able to convert, while the "date" US 07/04/2022 is able to convert to UK format 04/07/2022.
If the source data were written in date format, the copying would probably run without any problems, because numbers are copied. In the case of date-like texts, some may convert to dates and some will remain texts. It seems that in the case of texts, we should first convert the data to dates using, for example, DATE, RIGHT, MID, LEFT formulas, and only then copy to the destination.
But this is just my guess, because I don't have access to the sample file.

That was my conclusion looking at his screenshot but the actual file did not look like the screenshot. Someone in another forum provided a solution but I tried it and it's just plain wrong.
I told him I would just rewrite the code if he could explain what it's supposed to do.
https://www.excelforum.com/excel-gen...ml#post5826036
The pivot table shown in the file attached to post #29 should be sorted ascending by the Days2 column.
As can be seen that isn't the case and I can not understand why.
The pivot table's source data is on the Tournament sheet.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge of pivot tables could resolve the issue.
Any help with this Google Sheets conditional formatting query? I cannot get my head around what the OP is trying to achieve exactly.
https://www.excelforum.com/for-other...eferences.html
I spent all day on and off yesterday and another hour or so this morning solving the OP's first challenge, and now he has introduced another level of complexity. I don't have that amount of time for head-scratching today, so if anyone else wants to have a go, it's here: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...-criteria.html
If it's of help, I can probably explain the logic of the bit I solved more clearly than the OP did, so if you need that, just shout.
Ali, Thank you but NO thank you. I looked at yesterday's post and hadn't even the vaguest notion of what was wanted! Kudos for sticking at it.. I'm on the road today and will resist the temptation to have a go.
The logic was nowhere near as obtuse in the end as he made it - it took longer to get my head around that than the solution, but the final sticking point was curious, and I learnt something about using VSTACK along the way that I hadn't anticipated!
I bet you won't be able to resist it ...
And I know there's at least one other here who will probably be working on a much simpler 2D spill array, so let's watch this space!!!![]()
I am happy to help people get over a sticking point when they're stuck but when the time needed is measured in hours it sounds more like a consulting project for free. I tend to avoid those.
So do I, but my puzzle-mad brain got the better of me and I was determined to work out what was going on. It is not as complicated as it looks, but it took ages for the penny to drop for me.
I asked OP for a workbook with sample data. OP posted workbook with sampledata that looks alright I guess.
Only problem is, I can't see the pattern...![]()

I have seen many posts by this user and they are all poorly explained. His trouble with English is only part of the problem; he just doesn't explain things well. He seems to be obsessed with some sort of analysis to predict lottery winning numbers, which is always a fool's errand. But I posted asking some detailed questions to see if we can at least understand the question.

Can someone have a look at this one: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...-an-issue.html
I thought I had cracked it, but apparently not. The OP keeps repeating the rules and I'm clearly missing something, but they are reluctant to provide more than one row of sample data at a time.
This request seems to be beyond my abilities. At the moment, my mind is not focused enough to address this request. I would appreciate it if someone could step in to help. Thank you.

An interesting PQ one here that requires refinement. I have managed to get so far, but there'll be a better way to generate the columns I am sure. Added into the mix now is the desire to fill down text, but not numbers, in columns with a mixed economy. I could do it, but it would be horrendously clunky!

I am struggling to establish how parameters for a dataset will be fed into a formula in this thread: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-gen...culations.html
Not only has the OP accused me of being impolite (I have not), she is now getting very impatient and I am losing the will to persist in my questioning. Can someone else get the relevant information out of her or, better still, work it all out from what she's already said? Thanks!

This looks to me like a FILTER() or equivalent function nested inside of another statistical function. Or maybe a pivot table with an appropriate calculated field, or some such solution, that is not within my wheelhouse: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...nded-date.html
@MrShorty: options suggested.
I understand the essence of what the OP wants to do, but can't get close enough to the detail to offer a solution. Can anyone get any closer to an understanding of their data and what the workbook totals are that they refer to?

It's gone above my pay grade.
Here is someone who just upgraded to Excel 2021 on a Mac, and when they try to select an entire row or entire column, there is nothing on the screen to indicate the selection. This may be specific to Excel 2021 for Mac, it may even be a corruption on the machine. I dunno, but I don't have a Mac.

The OP would like to be able to add new items to a table that is produced by Power Query. Issue is that after the original table was produced, additional columns are added. This post (https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...ml#post5899205 ) started out somewhere in general excel, ended up in VBA, and I'm now asking if anyone who knows Power Query might want to comment. In short, the OP wants to extract information from a closed Excel file without opening the file in the process. It's always the same information from the same location in the spreadsheet, but a different file each day. Can anyone with experience accessing closed files in Power Query (or any other Excel tool) comment?
I made a comment about database design. I think there might be room for someone experienced in database design to comment about the value in building good databases, too (though I'm not sure the OP is ready to accept a tutorial on better database design).
I've taken this one as far as I can. Perhaps I simply lack understanding of golf tournaments or old age is catching up with me. Either way I do not understand.
