My bad really, neither do I know but I've seen the message "Database maintenance" several times in this forum and not being able to access the forum while this goes on.I did not know that ExcelForum were planning an upgrade.?
So I posted this just to show that the excel forum is not the only forum that suffer from "Database" troubles.

I think we would really miss these if the Forum software was finally sorted. - Gives the Forums one of its unique distinguishing characteristics

Getting told in German you are not allowed to enter the forum certainly adds extra authority to the message.
By the way "Zugriff", you are not out to pinch the forum Alan?
I thought the proper word would be "Zutritt"? But then my German is getting rusty.

Yes the word "tritt" could be the "Simple Present" or the "Imperative" of the verb "treten" as well as "griff" could be "Simple Past" of the verb "greifen"
I had a quick look at the link snb posted (thanks, interesting forum) and tried to download a file but received this message.

I think that looks like as it is at ExcelForum. - You have to be registered so you can log – in to download stuff.
It is pretty well the equivalent of this , which you get from ExcelForum if you are not logged in

Also yesterday I got a new one: Google Chrome refused to connect me to the Forum saying that Excel Forum was redirecting me too much. ( I had to delete all my Cookes to sort that out )
So I expect our Indian friends are experimenting a bit.
