Who do I ask for an explanation of a solution suggested in a 'formula' thread?

I have been searching for a solution to a problem for weeks and I finally found it on Excel Forum. Wonderful! I've adapted the solution offered and it works a treat for me too... but I don't know why. Do I ask the solution provider? Anyone in the forum that the problem/solution appeared by creating a new thread? In this Water Cooler forum?
I also found that I had already created a formula that would have worked but I didn't appreciate that it was an array formula. Once I understood that (I think!), I found that it worked as well. I'd like to know which is the more efficient solution, mine or the one suggested for the problem in the thread, because I have a large worksheet and performance is becoming an issue.
So, please can I have direction on presenting such questions?
Regardless of that, I'm very happy indeed with this Excel-lent group.

Just create your own thread in the Excel Formulas section, showing the formula you have used, and one of us will explain it to you.

Thanks Ali. Perhaps you should get a star for this... or I'll click that button on my new thread if you see it and explain why the solutions work!

Ah, making me work for my reputation, are you? Perhaps if I tell you that I originally come from the Nottingham area, you'll be nice to me?

1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
