Commercial Services Ques?

Would someone be able to answer a question. In commercial services you buy points but how do you know how many to buy to have a problem looked at and resolved?

    Hello mikerules,

A starting point would be, how much is it worth to you? Members will look at it, and if they feel you are not paying enough, they will notify you, and you may then up on your price.

    Regards.

    Re: Commercial Services Ques?

I recommend you think first what it's worth to you, THEN also include a consideration for the possible time involved to resolve, there should be some balance here.

If the question is really only worth $10 (10pts) to you, then that's fine, but if it takes you 4 paragraphs to explain that problem, and possibly will take 2-3 hours of time investment for someone to grasp, resolve, test and confirm the solution with you, that would more rightly be 30-50pts worth of TIME., possibly even more.

There are many 1-10pt questions in the Commercial Services forum that have gone unanswered because they are clearly worth a LOT more than that in terms of time.

Don't be shy to make a guess starting with what it's worth to you, open your thread, roll the dice. If you don't get a response in the first day or two, add a note that you would be willing to up the points, if that is true.

I frequently take on a question in that forum and politely point out the points are insufficient early on giving the OP a chance to update them, so it's done all the time and it's fine, as long as all remain civil during the negotiation.

    Re: Commercial Services Ques?

Based on Jerry's post, if 10 points ($10) is offered for a question that takes, say, 4 hours to resolve, that equates to $2.50/hour - pretty cheep rates
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
    2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

Exactly. A cheap programmer rate should start around $20 in the real world, and typically a significantly higher. But as I said, roll the dice...

    Re: Commercial Services Ques?

I'm a programmer that makes $20/hr at my job. Not that my opinion matters much but I wouldn't charge less than that unless it was for a friend or family member. Then again, if I got a couple of dollars for each helpful resolution in forums, I wouldn't look down on that either. I think you guys have got it going right!
