Post code vs. attach woirkbook

Hi,

I would like to get the thoughts of advantages/ disadvantages regarding the VBA part of this forum. More and more I find users answering questions by attaching a workbook as a solution but not showing the code. I can understand that itīs a very good means to any new user finding the code and maybe a button with the solution.

But as I regard myself as being a slightly advanced user in VBA I find it unnecessary to download a "solution" workbook to have to state when seeing the code used that a) the solution isnīt referring to the way my problem is laid down and b) a macro-recorder code has been used more or less and has been modified a bit (this can be fine, nothing against the recorder - I started learning VBA by the use of it and still use it but usually rework the code to avoid all the Selections, and okay, I may have read a book or two about the subject as well and maybe even adapted some habits from them). I donīt mind the traffic for my provider but the forum software maybe has a bit more of traffic to do then it would need to have.

A good argument for me doing both is that the search for the board can only update the index on terms found in the text or the code segments delivered (please correct me if Iīm wrnog - it was at least with Version 3.5...). This doesnīt mean that the search in ths forum satisfies me in what I search for (I usually take an external search for far better results in what I really search) but I think we could as least try to support it.

Awaiting your thoughts on this (come on, tell me Iīm wrong and I should mind my own business and not download other peopleīs attachments ).

I reckon it does depend on the question, the answer and the knowledge of the guy/gal asking the question but mostly I would post the code maybe with a workbook too

If it's just a code solution that can be copied and pasted, I'd probably just show the code, no workbook. If it needs other components, like named ranges, I might upload the updated sample workbook.

I mostly paste the code only, but if the user is finding it difficult to follow what goes where, then i attach a workbook.

thanks for sharing our thoughts, basicly itīs the same idea I would state as none of those who have answered so far just mentioned to only attach a workbook without showing the code.

Iīm really sorry for the typo in the thread title - I hate looking at the preview and not to see them in order to remove them (they only come out after having pressed submit I guess ).
