Excel Checkboxes disappear in Local instance but not online version

Hello all,

I have an excel file (using 365) that contains dozens of checkboxes (ActiveX, I think. Don't quote me on that.)
When I open it in my local instance of Excel all of the checkboxes turn to TRUE/FALSE values. However, if I open it
online (right-click>>view online), the checkboxes are there exactly as they should be.

Question is... how do I show them (not lose them) when I open the file locally. (I prefer local)

Any assistance is appreciated.

Yes, the file resides on my OneDrive. I am right clicking the icon for the file on my OneDrive in File Explorer.

As 6String suggested, those are "in cell" checkboxes, rather than ActiveX or Form control checkboxes.
With the desktop app click on the "Insert " tab on the ribbon, is there an icon marked Checkbox?

Not that I can see. See attached screenshot.

That explains why they disappear. They became available in July 2024 on the monthly channel, so if your on the semi-annual channel you might not have them yet, but it's worth running an update if you can.

The kicker here is that I DID created this spreadsheet. I have an inkling that perhaps my IT Dept has messed around with some of the permissions, or whatever.
And I did have that icon previously, but now I don't.

Anyway, thank you for your help. I will investigate further internally.
