Question Splitting a cell vertically or horizontally

I have a cell I want to split into 2 in this case vertically, so I can enter data in each of the new cells. This is above other information and I don't want a random column splitting up the rows below or having to merge a lot of cells. I used to know how to do this but it has bee a while. Google search has told me to use the layout tab but I don't have one even when I try to customize the ribbon it is not an option. Please help, how do I do this?

    Thank you

Re: Splitting a cell vertically or horizontally

You can only have horizontal or vertical lines around the border of a cell.

What you can do, however is to have a diagonal line across the cell and to arrange your text to fall either side of this line, as can be sen in the attached file.

    Hope this helps.

I suspect it means Page Layout tab/ribbon.
