Power Query List.Transform syntax

Hello,
When using List.Transorm I've found that ,

 List.Transform(List.Distinct( [Date] )  , Text.From)

and

   List.Transform ( List.Distinct( [Date] ) , each Text.From(_) )

both work, can someone explain how they are working, I know when accidently putting 'each' into a custom column I've turned it into a function, so is that what's happening in the second case,

these were taken from within groups so I've attached that.
