I’d like to learn how to fill a cell with a colour when a cell is over 50% (say) of a number.
Can anyone help with this please?

Welcome to the forum.
This could be done with conditional formatting. It would need a formula rule - let's say the cell you want to colour is A1:
=A1>(n/2)
where n is the number.
