My computer takes very long to respond when executing tasks. I have tried deleting temporary files and doing disc cleanup but the problem persists.

The cheapest solution for speeding up most computers is to MAX out the memory the computer will take. RAM, not HD.
Windows XP has a minimum requirement of 1/2gig of RAM, but I've never been happy with an XP computer with that amount of memory. 1gig is my minimum and if your computer will hold 4gig, then by golly put in 4 gig. You spend a lot of time at the computer, those extra seconds add up fast.
If you don't know the max memory available to you, post your complete make and model and we'll help you look it up. I use OEMPCWORLD.COM and CRUCIAL.COM and KINGSTON.COM to look up memory specifications on my computers.

A vfresh install of the OS will often sort this out. Make sure you back everything up before you do this though. failing that as above
