    file attachments exceeds quota.
ok what bright spark introduced this?
it totals every attachment ive ever posted
now as a vast majority of these are answers to other peoples questions and people are supposed to search forum for previous answers before posting
how the hell could they see the answer if i delete the attachment?
i'm in the middle of answering someones thread and now we have to deal directly by mail as i cant upload the answer.

    Good morning martindwilson

All users' upload limits have now been set to 5Mb while a decision is made about how to allocate users limits.

    Storage cap?

I just saw the same thing.

If there will be a 5Mb limit. I can just open a new account every time the limit is reached.

    Thinking aloud:

    1. Is the storage space a problem?
I have attachements of 6,7Mb /1000 posts --> 6,7Kb/post. Let's assume that 5kb/post is average, and today there are ~820 000 posts --> ~4,1Gb. Now even with the double, that is a trivial problem where I come from.
My USB key is 8Gb (current prices 4$/Gb).
    S-ATA disks 1Tb are available for 200$/Tb.

    2. Would the members be willing to pay for extra storage space, rather then opening a new account?
Looking at the prices above compared to the Ads traffic. Possibly, but might be hard to justify as fair.

    3. Will the storage space be a problem?
Possibly. My last attachement was a 850Kb .xlsx file with a video attachment - since a .xlsx file has a limit of 1Mb.

So what's the best route today?
    Probably No limit.
