Mutiple languages in cells

I have some excel documents at work that were originally in Japanese but have been translated into English.
Majority of the cells in the worksheet have one line of English with a line of Japanese after it.
Is there any way the Japanese characters can be removed leaving only the English phrase in the cell.
There are some cells that also contain numbers and I would like to remove only the figure next to the Japanese text.
