Use code to see if an online workbook is newer than local version

    Hello,

I want to make a 2010 Excel file available for download from a website - call it "file.xslx" (it will contain some data used in calculations). I plan on updating the data in the file on a routine basis. I'd like to be able to automate a process where, when the previously downloaded file was opened, a macro or sub would somehow get a value from a cell in the newer online version, compare it to a value (in a hidden cell) in the downloaded version, and trigger a message to the user saying, "there's a newer version available online".

Would someone please tell me if that's possible and how to do it? I was thinking it might be doable with an ADO connection, but I'm just not sure.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Most of your question sounds like what happens with OneDrive.

Thank you for your reply, Marvin.

I actually have a one-drive account. But that doesn't work for my purposes. Is there a code approach you'd recommend?
