Macro to format this inconsistent spreadsheet

Hi all,

I have this expenditure sheet that prints horribly and I was hoping to write a macro that would result in a format that is faster for me to analyze and easier for me to filter. Unfortunately I haven't programmed in 5 years (since my sophomore year comp sci labs) and that was all in Java (and all pretty basic).

I was hoping that somebody could either write a macro that could format the spreadsheet, or even something to get me started. If you can write something to help notes would be great because I plan on teaching myself the language in the evenings when I get home from work.
