Excel 2003 App. Configuring a download for client to open

I’ve designed several Apps in Excel 2003, which uses forms (with macros embedded) for them to function. We distribute these to remote users via website downloads.

When the user opens the downloaded file for the first time, they get the standard Microsoft “Enable Macros” message. The background screen they see is the normal Excel view for their machine with toolbars (ribbons 2007/2010) and sheet tabs etc. This happens irrespective of how I finalise the files before I upload them. The result looks unprofessional and confuses less experienced users.

Is there a way of configuring the download package so that when opened for the first time it shows as a full screen with Toolbars/ribbons and tabs hidden?

I doubt it. The message is based on their security settings that you have no control over. What you can do is put the file into a zip file which may help some. Of course then you have to explain how to unzip which some users have problems with as well.

Thanks for input...kinda what I thought. Am reluctant to ZIP files as that gives other problems (users have very little PC experience) so still looking...

Try searching for: self extracting zip

This will let you create the zip file that is an EXE file. That will force them to save the extracted file rather than running it right from the web download.
