Blank space behind content when copying Merged cells

In my excell sheet I have a couple of merged cells.
The data in these cells gets copied by me or someone ells to another program.

But when we copy the content out of the merged cells and past it into the other program Excell creates blank/white spaces behind the content.

What is the best way to attend to this problem, without having to unmerge the cells?

One option would be to copy the text of the formula bar rather than the cell.

You posted this in the vba forum so programmatically I would probably approach this by unmerging copying and then remerging the cells - or just not use merged cells in the first place.
