Sorting with check boxes - cells appear linked

Hello. I have a spreadsheet (attached) with check boxes. I want to sort the data by event date. It appears that the check boxes are linked to their cells. Yet when I do the sort, the check boxes do not move accordingly. I've tried what I know. Can anyone help?
