VBA help gathering data from specified device

I'm new to VBA, but understand a few basics on it. I have an excel sheet that would contain a list of IP addresses and I essentially want to set-up a command button that when hit, it will go out to each of the IP's listed, enter the password, and return a specific piece of data (a power load for a plant controller) and put that in another cell on the sheet.

I've seen these things done before, but have nothing to referece on where to begin setting something like this up. Any pointers or help steering me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. :)

you may need further knowledge on other programming languages for that...

or a closer step you can use from visual basic is the "Send keys statement" to navigate through applications that are not created by VBA...
