    Automatically copy certain cells values

Hi everyone. New to the forums. Go easy on me if this is something that always gets asked. My excel knowledge is very limited, anything complicating i get done by just googling.

I am trying to accomplish the following task and i am not sure how difficult it is.

    I have 2 spreadsheets.
Lets say, one of them contains data in the following format:

    Event 1
    Event 2
    Event 3
    Event 4
    Event 5

Second spreadsheet contains Test values only if they have occurred. So it will look like:

    Event 1 50
    Event 3 20
    Event 5 13

I have thousands of these Events and the second spreadsheet is different every time. Because of that I dont want to spend time filling in all the Event numbers that haven't occurred and have a value of 0. I also can NOT copy the entire column of values from the second spreadsheet and paste it into the first spreadsheet because not all Alarms have occurred. Is there an easy way for me to copy the values from the second spreadsheet to the first spreadsheet to its corresponding Event numbers?

If i am not making sense please let me know and i will try to rephrase.

    Sample.xlsx

This is the format i am talking about. But i have thousands of lines with data. It would actually be two different excel files instead of worksheets.
The yearly contains all the data even if the event had 0 occurrences. The monthly data only contains values for events that had at least one hit.

    I still have some questions..

Would there be a file per month/year to feed the yearly workbook?

Included in the formula to fill the yearly data is that the name of the monthly workbook is MMMYYYY ex. Jan2012
    Attached Files Attached Files

    Yearly Events.xlsxJanuary 2013.xlsxFebruary 2013.xlsx

Maybe this will make it more clear. The yearly file is how i want it to look like and will be updated every month. The monthly report only contains the values(how many times) for the events(event is like an alarm) that happened. The monthly report does not have the event(alarm) listed if it did not occur.

Thank you for looking into this for me.
