Does having macros increase the size of an Excel file significantly?

Hi, i have an excel file which is 20MB. It has lots of tabs and is quite manual to produce each month.

I created a new worksheet and created some macros to automate some of the manual steps - i.e unhide all sheets, copy and paste data to other parts of the report, refresh all pivots etc..

the file size has increased to 34MB by adding one sheet - why would this be?

It is called file bloat and the problem is well known.

    Here's one message about that.

There could be several circumstances causing the problem. Search is your friend.

    Good luck!
