Question How do I update a graph weekly in excel without overwriting past week information

Hello anyone who can help. I am new on this forum, and I have been searching different forums for hours trying to find out how to do what im trying to do, and hopefully someone here can help.

I have a excel workbook with multiple sheets, with about a thousand rows of data. All the data is being exported weekly to another sheet in the workbook with a graph that will update the information. right now I am manually entering the information into the graph sheet weekly, which takes a long time. I was told that excel can do this automatically.

so here are my questions.
I have created a small example In the image I have attached, the information in orange is the info that I am going to be changing from day to day. Every Friday I want the area in yellow to automatically take the information in orange and import it into a new column and add the appropriate date as the header, which will then add itself to the graph, so i don't have to enter it manually.

Is there a way to make this automated so it updates the chart with the new numbers but keeps the old ones?
Is there a way to do this without some super advanced VB script, as I have no idea on how to use VB scripts?
Is there a way to make a "button" of sorts that automatically updates the information when pressed?

Hopefully I have explained what I am trying to do well enough. I could use any help that anyone could provide as manually entering this info every week takes hours.
Thanks for any help!

Hi and welcome to the forum

Please do not upload a picture of your file...rather, upload a sample of your workbook, showing what data you are working with, a few samples of your expected outcome is (manually entered is ok) and how you arrived at that. (exclude sensitive info). Pictures are pretty much impossible to edit, and no-one wants to re-type your data for you

You can probably do what you want using index/match and the today() function
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: How do I update a graph weekly in excel without overwriting past week information

Hi FDibbins, I have uploaded the example worksheet, sadly I cannot post my real workbook as all the information in it is sensitive to my job and I would get in quite a bit of trouble if any of it were posted.

The worksheet I have uploaded is basically the same type of information, as in multiple sheets that are pulling updated info, but in a much smaller scale and as you can probably tell has nothing to do with any actual work. The details of my last post still apply, but now the info in yellow in the "Graph Sheet" needs to be updated with the orange information that is in the "worksheet" sheet.

Right now I have column D in the "Graph Sheet" updated with the information that comes from "Worksheet" column B. what i would like is for the "Graph Sheet" to save the information as it is right now, then when i add more information to the "Worksheet" through out the week it will update the "Graph Sheet" on Friday and add the information to Column E thus adding more information to the graph.

It would be fine also if somehow it deleted the information from Column B of the "Graph Sheet" and moved columns C and D to the left and added the new information to Column D. I hope that is easier to understand than it was to write.
Thanks for any help!

You can extend the range as far as you want, just hide the columns that dont apply yet - they wont show up on the chart

Re: How do I update a graph weekly in excel without overwriting past week information

that is what i have been doing, inserting a column in-between C and D in the "Graph Sheet" manually copying the numbers over from the previous week and then having the numbers from the new week show up with the new date, but it is very tedious when there is a LOT of information. that is why i was hoping there was a way to have it automatically done.

for instance, on 6/28/2013 which has not happened yet, during the week of 6/28 when i update the "Worksheet", at the end of the day I either press a button or the workbook automatically adds a new column in for me with the appropriate information.
