A function to check if a cell is populated when the workbook is opened

I am trying to write a function/sub that when the workbook is opened it checks to see if a year is entered in a cell on the cover worksheet, and also checks if a contract length is entered. if not an input box prompts you to enter them and also puts the values in global variables and in the cells.
