Deleting large amount of shapes

I am trying to delete large amount (up to 20k) of different shapes in one wrksheet.
Traditional ActiveSheet.Shapes.SelectAll does not work sufficient an via this method it takes 10+ minutes.
Selecting and deleting one-by-one via loop is also not comfortable and in 5cases of 10, excel fall down.
Do anyone have a suggestion how to solve it?
