Excel 2010 file thinks it is 20x its actual size (shared, macros/vba coding)

I have a shared file that continues to decrease in performance as it thinks it is much larger than it actually is. What are some "refresh" options available (short of recreating it from its original every day) that I can do to keep this phantom sizing issue from happening?

The file actual size is 14K and after a week or so of usage, (and I clear out completed files) it believes it is 14GB in size.
