Help with expiration date with administrator override

Could anyone help me with a VBA project? We want to be able to set an expiration date on a spreadsheet (I have that part working) and, allow the administrator to override or reset the expiration date to a new one. As is, once the espiration date is triggered there is no way to reopen the spreadsheet. Thanks!Feedlot Tracking CG Vs 3 tpk working copy march 30 kill date.xlsm

    1) Excel is really not a secure environment. Anyone who wants to get into your file will be able to do so with about 20 minutes of Googling.

    Having said that:
    2) Wouldn't you really just want to be able to open the file on a particular machine? Other users shouldn't even be prompted (thus informed) for a master password.

Look into using the Environ method to test for your Environ("USERNAME") or Environ("COMPUTERNAME") and it would just open for you, no fuss no muss.

Thanks for the input and yes, we realize that Excel is not truly secure, the vast majority of our users would not spend the time trying to 'crack' the expired spreadsheet and we really do not mind if a few figure it out. We are looking for a 'hurdle for the masses' if you will. We give the spreadsheet away as a tool/service for customers and want the ability to no longer extend it as a service to those who stop being customers.

We would be satisfied with some sort of expiration date as long as there was a way for the administrator to open up expired spreadsheets. The way it is, once a spreadsheet has expired no one can open it and that can cause probelms when the spreadsheet contains important data.

Then I would use the technique noted above. You can use the ENVIRON method to capture some piece of info from the Administrator's computer, and it if matches specific results, skip the whole expiration test entirely and simply open the workbook.

Thanks, I will give the ENVIRON method a whirl.
