    Problem changing a name...

Trying to change the log title on the setup page. But when the macro is run it does not change. For instance, I want to change the log title from "Whoopee" to "Who Dat" I can change it on the setup page but when I run the macro the log title remains "Whoopee"....

I am a complete an oblivious Excel newb...

Hi limywidget, welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure what you mean...

This changes C3 on the "Setup" sheet

or if "setup" is the active sheet:

    Re: Problem changing a name...

I am using the Windows scheduler to reboot a pc. Upon startup the system logs into a building automation system using a separate scripting program. The automation system pulls log files in the *.LG0 format that you see on the setup page in the workbook. The excel macro then pulls these files in to format them for use by the end user. The end user has determined to change the names of the machines ie "Whoopee" to "Who Dat".

When this process runs across many different log files the process ignores the "C3" for some reason. Even though the value in C3 has changed. I cannot resolve why it will not accept the new value.

I did not originate this design I inherited it, hehe. I have 27 log files in total that the Macro's appear to be identical with the exception of log22.xls etc and the path to the LG0 files. I am not gifted with Excel by any means...

I went through your code but couldn't really point out why it doesn't get the "name" from cell C3. Can you attach a log file and the .xls together that works, but fails to pick up the name from C3?

The code itself has some inefficiency issues but otherwise it should work. I'll go through that as well if I manage to resolve your original problem.

    L010039B.txt

    log1.xls

Here are the files. You will have to change the ext on L010039B.txt to .LG0 (El GEE Zero) it wouldn't let me upload it with the LG0 ext.

Thanks so much for your help.

    Hey,

I've made a few changes, although I have no idea why it didn't work. It works for me now (it picks up the value from C3 on the setup sheet and puts in into J1 of the active sheet. That's what you want, right?)

Thank you so much. We are currently testing this and it is closer to where we need it.

Just to clarify. You could not get the orig file that I posted to work either?

    Re: Problem changing a name...

It didn't work, cause it tried to name the worksheet with special characters. It used the =NOW() function and formatted it like "m/d/yy" and tried to use it as a worksheet name. And you can't include special characters such as "/" in worksheet names. Once I corrected that, it worked. All the other changes I made was just optimization. (Although I think it could be better, but I don't know what's needed at what isn't.)
