Dear all,

I'm as new as it gets in this forum (signed some 20m min ago!) and this is my first post, so I hope it wont be too difficult to understand. By the way I must admit that my knowlegde of EXCEL is a bit more than fundamental but still a very long way from expert and I have no experience whatsoever with macros and VBA programming.

My problem at the moment is that I have spreadsheets which are filled with specific terms from various lists (stored in a common source file 'MyLists'), and these terms are in German but I wish to have them in english, in order to share the data with non-german speaking colleagues.

The project is part of a thesis (archaeology) and I m using EXCEL 2003 in order to record information from various reports in standardized form. All columns which are validated though lists are linked to the list source file via NAMES-define.

The Question: Is it possible to automatically replace the german terms in the spreadsheets with english ones? I thought of translating the lists file (MyLists), which would result in an absolute correspondence of "location" between the german and english terms but then I don t have a clue as to how to "tell" excel to GET and replace the old data from the new lists of english terms. Can it be done with a function? Do I need to programme a macro?

I would be grateful for any suggestions, how to go about with this task, if there are any of course. As a last resort I could always link the new english lists with the spreadsheets and update each term manually, but that would take ages to complete.

Thanks in advance for any input,
Cheers,
panosino

I have tried to attach two snapshots of the spreadsheets I was referring to, and I hope that it all works out despite the error message I got after uploading the jpg-files.
