Hi,
I'm trying to create a network diagram by exporting data from Excel to Visio, and it seems so much more difficult than I'd expect it should be.
In Excel, I have a long list of IT Systems which should be reflected as shapes in Visio. They should then have connectors between them to represent the interfaces between systems. I have managed to import the systems themselves using the "Link Data to Shapes" functionality in Visio, and now have a series of 200 or so shapes now in Visio - one per system.
I am however completely stuck as to how I can import the connections between the IT Systems, of which there are very many.
In Excel, I have arranged the data in two columns, where each entry in Column A should have a connection/interface to it's corresponding entry in Column B. The connections are many-to-many in some cases, therefore I have numerous duplicates in each column such that each unique pairing can be shown.
Can anyone suggest how I can import the connections to Visio please?
I expect I may need a macro of some description.
Many thanks in advance for any help,
James :-)
p.s. An example of the data format I currently have in Excel:
System 1 | System 2
Oracle | SAP
Oracle | Bank interface
Oracle | Payroll system
SAP | Bank interface
Workday | Oracle
etc.
