Help Needed - Extracting Columns Duplicate and Unique Elements

Greetings to fellow members,

I am new to this community and this is my first post in this forum.

I am troubled with a problem of extracting out the identified duplicate or unique elements present in the column data: actually it's not as simple (for me at least). I send you herewith the image of the data in excel file, its attached with this post. excel sample image.jpg

I need to find out the duplicate elements from the columns A and D, then paste it down in the column G alongwith the corresponding elements from columns B and E. It means I'd need to paste down the data in three columns, where the values in new columns H and I correspond to the element in the column G, as it did originally, before i took them out and pasted elsewhere.

The problem is that I'll have to deal with dozens of files like this and the position of unique values may vary each time, restricting the use of "action-copied" excel macros. I have already tried with functions such as, vlookup, if and countif together, iserror and match, but nothing seems to be working when i register them in macros (actions copying method). The four columns contain 7600 data each.

Please write back to me if you need more details in order to make trials. The excel file with the data is linked here:Sample column compare.xlsx

I, very urgently, need your help in order to carry on my work.

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Sanjeev Pandey

"A picture is worth more than a million words". It would have easier if you had also included with the attched a desired result.
Before and after the macro output would be good.

There are no duplicates in either column "A" or "D"

Re: Help Needed - Extracting Columns Duplicate and Unique Elements

Thanks for your reply AB33, I'd better explain the desired results below in the message!

besides, I am looking for duplicates between columns A and C, so when i write a formula to list down the duplicates, it always fills in something in cells which were unique between the two columns, or either lests it empy! I, in fact want to remove those empty cells from the new columns! its like below for example in the photo:

sample.jpg

We see there is a duplicate between column A and C (cells A2 and C2), which is listed down in the cells E and G, however, the data in the cell C2 is unique and thus we have "False" in the cell G2 and H2. I want all the cells like G2 to be removed (cells moved up, row unchanged) so that I have a list of only duplicates alongwith the integer data from columns B and D, because later on I need to do the subtraction between the values in column B and C (now in columns F and H) to estimate the relative error in the data. Remember, the columns E, F, G and H contain the data which were in duplicate in columns A and C.

Either if you can suggest a macro or a function integrable in the action-copied macros, would be of much help!

best regards,
Sanjeev

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
