Visual Basic Message: “Compile error, Procedure too large”

    Hi all,

I have a copy of a template (xlsm) to convert an excel spreadsheet to a gedcom (genealogy data communication) file. This template has a large amont of VBA code.

The template is an xlsm but my excel program is from the Office Professional 2003.

When I try to run the code to convert the excel file, I get an error message "Visual Basic Message: “Compile error, Procedure too large”. In the Help attached to the message box, it says that the max size for the code is 64k.

Would the fact that I only have the 2003 version be the problem. I don't want to have to buy a later version for just one job!

    Many thanks.

I'm surprised that you don't have the same problem in your later version of Excel.

The solution is to rewrite the code to make it smaller, or break it into several modules.

    Thanks shg.

I have Office Pro 2003. When I open the xlsm file it states that the file is being converted (probably to suit my version).

If I knew anything about VBA I might have given it a try but my understanding of VBA is zilch.

I'll jst have to try and find someone who has a newer version of excel. - I thought about installing the trial version of 2010 but it seems that I could mess up my 2003 version, which I don't want to do.

    Thanks again for your help.
