Open Excel Document Read-only for Office versions prior to 2007

Hi - I would like to create a function/macro that would only allow a user to open an Excel document in Read Only mode if they have an office version released before Ofice 2007 (e.g., Office XP, 2003).

I use specific color schemes and functions in my documents that get changed if users open a document in an earlier version of Office 2007 and then save the document. Is there a way to do this?
