Years ago, I sucessfully used the following code (borrowed from someone) to find and remove missing references. I'm not sure what version of Excel it worked in.

I am currently using Excel 2003, and although I can step through the code and see that it finds the MISSING: reference and runs the "ThisWorkbook.VBProject.References.Remove theRef" statement, the MISSING: reference is not removed.
