Cannot identify shape names in Excel 2007

I am trying to assign macros to individual shapes in an Excel 2007 worksheet, and I cannot find a way to identify the shape.
Is there a provision for editing the shape name or viewing the properties?

If you click the shape, you should be able to see/edit it's name in the name box (near top left)

Also check the Selection Pane.
Home > Editing > Find & Select > Selection Pane.

Thank you! I did not know that tool existed. It is really helpful to be able to see all objects on the sheet. I found some orphaned comments which I did not know about.
