Comparing 2 cells no matter what format

Hi All

This is a quick question with hopefully an easy answer!!

I have written a script that compares 2 sets of data and it had been working fine until the 2 data sets were the same but in a different format. I was wondering if it would be possible to change the format when comparing the 2 value. This conversion and comparision below (basic version) seems to work but I wonder if anyone can think of an istance or data type where this might fall over??? the data can be anything; numbers, numbers stored as text, text, dates in various formats, etc.
