    Reidentify merged cells

Somehow when I merged 3 cells together excel had decided to call this cell DD_1. Is there anyway to stop excel from reassigning or assigning a value to a cell once merged? Can the cells be renamed?

---------- Post added at 04:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 PM ----------

when I unmerged the cells they went back to L4, M4, N4. When I remerged them it returned to DD_1. Then I tryed to cell down, to keep this pattern. the next row (L5, M5, N5) calls the merged cells L5. Very strange!

it sounds like you are trying to merge cells that are contained in a group name or merging cells that are in the manager and some that are not. is this the case?

Yes. My newly added cells are not formatting themselves to match the group labeling.

The cells are similar to as follows, where L4:L7 are added rows.

    DD_1
    DD_2
    L4
    L5
    L6
    L7
    DD_3
    DD_4
    DD_5

I am unclear as what you are trying to get at. I tried to replicate and i think mine is working fine, but i am not sure what you are saying. Could you attach a workbook with some sample information for me.

    Re: Reidentify merged cells

Well you have the errors because you have no names that are DD_11 or further. You can just name your cells in the name box on the top left of the screen while they are merged. I am not sure what else you are looking for. Could you expand a little more if this does not help.
