Unable to run startup Macro in Excel 2007

    Hi

One of my users has presented me with a problem that I'm stumped on. Maybe someone here will know the solution.

It's a simple bit of code that has been placed in thisworkbook in PersonalXLSB (Excel 2007)

For some reason, whilst the msgbox test line works fine, the cursor change doesn't work - or I suspect that it does but Excel may be promptly changing it back.

The user has poor vision, and is keen to have this change run automatically on startup. Any thoughts from anyone?

    Cheers

    Hi Martin,

Did you put the code behind the Workbook? Did you save the file as a .xlsm?
I've tried your code on .xls and .xlsm (2010 excel) and both work great.
I just saved it as an .xlsb and the code worked and the cursor changed to an Ibean.

Maybe the user can't tell an IBeam from a Plus sign?

Do you mean the cursor to be an IBeam on a new file that has no code behind it?

Do you have mouse software installed that might change it back?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130044 suggests it might be different depending on the OS the user is using.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

Thumbs down Re: Unable to run startup Macro in Excel 2007

    Hi Marvin.

Thanks for the response. I've left the office for the day but will try later.

I did duplicate it myself on my own pc as I was quite surprised that it failed. I have 2003 and 2010 at home, so I'll check it there too.

In answer to your questions, I tried it as a stand alone XLSB and XLSB as well as the Personal.xlsb - it doesn't work in any of them. It's definitely not the user (or me!) making a visual error.

Yes he wants it globally set on startup and no there isn't any fancy mouse software installed. Excel 2007 doesn't seem to want to play. Interesting about the other versions though.

    Cheers

Ps sorry about the thumbs down. No significance except trying to type on a mobile screen!

Re: Unable to run startup Macro in Excel 2007

I have found the answer. There is a bespoke COM addin that appears to be resetting the cursor after the code has run. Frustrating but at least I know why it's happening!

    Thanks for your suggestions Marvin.

    Hi Joseph

It works! Simple but effective and it never occurred to me until you suggested it.

    Thanks
