What we are trying to show is a range, and if another cell's date falls between tha previous range, it will be highlighted.

Just do as i did on your file. Now if you enter the date on that cell and its between those dates the cell changes backgroud color.

On between values you just select cells A4 and B4 to set the range.

Correct.
The original spreadsheet had an (and) formula but my co-worker deleted the formula.
