Question about making calendar with VBA

Conditional formatting won't work since it's not based on values, it's based on the cell's format.

There must be a program I can write that establishes a rule that any cell changing from a non white background, non black border cell (a typical excel calendar cell) to another non white background, non black border cell simply becomes all gray or something.

Maybe an IF THEN function? Can anyone help?
