Counting character occurance in range

I was wondering if anyone here could help me find a solution to my problem!

I would like to get a code counts how many of a specific character is in a string of txt.

so like...

if cell A1 had 111223355

it would search for 1 then it would say 3.

This HAS to be VBA. I already know how to do this in Excel. (i don't want helper cells either.)
