VBA Project and Modules Remain in Project Explorer after workbook closed

In Excel 2010 with SP1, when I close an Excel file that contains a VBA project, the project for that file remains in the VBA project explorer. It happens for every file I have with, or without, a VBA project. If I open a new file (Book1), and close it. Then open a new file (Book2). Then go to the VB editor, I'll see both Book1 and Book2 in project explorer. The only way to clear the project explorer is to close Excel entirely. This is a new development. A week ago, it wasn't happening. I know of no changes in my environment.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

Re: VBA Project and Modules Remain in Project Explorer after workbook closed

    Hi avr5iron,

    This is strange.
I checked my Excel 2010 and after closing book1, 2 etc, they also get closed from VB project explorer. An option could be to un-install and then re-install the Office pack.

I am making myself an interested party here and would like to know the solution, if any comes up. Thanks.

    I close an Excel file
It looks as if the file is only hidden, not closed.

Re: VBA Project and Modules Remain in Project Explorer after workbook closed

Tried the code you suggested, and only the workbook that I think is open is returned. Yet, the VBA project explorer shows every workbook that has been opened since the last time Excel was closed.

Open Excel in Safe mode (hold down Ctrl key while opening normally, and answer Yes to the prompt - you should see Safe Mode in the title bar). Does the problem still occur?
    Good luck.

Re: VBA Project and Modules Remain in Project Explorer after workbook closed

Interesting - I have only ever seen/heard of this being caused by COM addins.
Just to check, you did see 'Safe Mode' in the title bar? (and it was the only instance of Excel you had open?)

I would be happy to set up a screen share to show the issue.

I don't think my work would approve of that!

Can you check your Control Panel and see what updates have been applied recently, or new programs installed.

OK, so you have installed a whole raft of updates there! Do you have the Visual Studio Design Time adaptor COM addin installed in Excel?

Yes, it's installed. FYI, most of the updates were installed after the problem started.

Can you try uninstalling the Google toolbar from Internet Explorer? (Google's Desktop search used to cause this problem, so...)

Thank you all for your help. The issue was resolved by disabling the Acrobat com add-in.
